What you need to know about petrol pump

What is a petrol pump?

The fuel pump or gasoline pump is the link between the tank and the injection system in the motor, where the gasoline pump pumps fuel from the tank to the injection system in the engine of its various types, and it is of great importance in order to move the car

Its function is to transfer or push fuel from the car tank towards the engine for the combustion process inside the engine,

This is because the height of the tank is less than the height of the motor; So it needs a petrol pump.

Types of petrol pump:

1- Mechanical pump:

The mechanical pump consists of a small internal piston that is moved in order to pull and pump gasoline, and the mechanical pump is installed on the cylinder head and an arm called the slug comes out of it, which is primarily responsible for the work of the pump and its transfer to gasoline.

2- The electric pump:

• Its basic configuration is based on an electric motor,

It is made by a plastic turbine that rotates in order to withdraw gasoline from the tank and pump it to the motor, and this type of pump is configured inside the tank in order for the gasoline to cool the pump.

• It is present in all modern cars and engines that operate with electronic fuel injection .... and this pressure will be much higher than the mechanical pump ... In most passenger cars, the pump pressure is from 5 bar to 9 bar .... up to 20 bar per Sports petrol pumps for modified cars

A very simplified explanation of how the electric pump works:

95% of electric gasoline pumps operate by means of an electric motor connected to the buckle and small blades installed on the x.... When the axial shaft rotates rapidly, it causes a conical vortex of the fuel inside the pump, which creates low pressure on the one hand and causes a suction force for fuel from the gasoline tank and high pressure On the other hand, it causes an expelling force of fuel on the engine side

- All car manufacturers are now turning to putting the pump inside the petrol tank for the following reasons:

1- Cooling the body of the pump by the gasoline in the tank, so the chance of gasoline boiling inside the pump and turning it into gasoline vapor is reduced, so the pump fails to pump it because the pump cannot suction or pump vapors and gases, but rather pumps liquids only.

2- To make the pump as far as it is from the engine and its temperature, so the problems of the pump are very less

3- The presence of the pump inside the tank greatly reduces the incidence of fires due to the electrical parts of the pump
